About Alpha
COURTESY POST — Seeking New Home for "Alpha" Date: Sunday, September 28, 2025
⚠️ Please note: Alpha is not at the shelter. This is a courtesy post to help the owner find a safe and appropriate new home. All inquiries should be directed to the owner, not Yolo County Animal Services.
Meet Alpha, an 8-year-old male Spitz looking for a fresh start after his previous owner passed away. His current caregiver has only had him a few weeks and is unable to keep him due to housing issues.
About Alpha Breed: Spitz
Age: 8 years
Color: Yellow/Tan
Gender: Male (not neutered)
Vaccines: Up to date
History: Came from a relative who recently passed; appears to have been previously neglected and may need additional medical care and grooming due to foxtails and minor wounds.
Living Situation: Has been kept primarily outdoors. Not potty-trained or crate-trained.
Behavior & Temperament Around Visitors: Friendly, excited, and barks.
Around Children: Unknown—has not been around kids.
Around Dogs: Has lived with dogs before.
Handling: Was anxious at the vet and snapped when being muzzled. Bite did not break skin and he calmed down immediately after.
Resource Guarding: Allows people to take food and toys.
❗ Important Notes Alpha is anxious in stressful situations and will need an adopter who can go slow with handling and give him structure, patience, and training. He likely needs a veterinary follow-up for skin foxtails and general care.
Reason for Rehoming Current caregiver is unable to keep him due to housing restrictions.
