About AVA
09/16/25 16:09
This dog has been in our care since 8/11/25 and could benefit from being out of the shelter. Placed on needs rescue.
8/13/25 Ava is a 2 year old F pointer mix who was found stray by highway patrol, and unfortunately found limping on right hind - we suspect she may have been hit by a car. Vet team took x-rays which show a broken pelvis on the right, possibly nearing the hip socket. If involving the hip socket, this dog may have a chronic limp unless it is surgically stabilized. If it is not involving the hip socket, this dog may heal up without any chronic limp! She has been started on intensive pain control. She has a very sweet demeanor - no fear in the kennel and even despite her pain, she's very loving and interactive. She would benefit from urgent rescue and will need veterinary evaluation to track healing and progress.
Update 8/27/25 - Ava is already much improved after 2 weeks of rest and pain control in the shelter - she is weight bearing on the right hind leg comfortably, with a minimal limp.

What did we do on today's adventure:
Ava enjoyed a fun park outing! She rode calmly in the car after checking things out, occasionally sticking her snout out the window to feel the breeze. Once at the park, she lit up with curiosity, sniffing, exploring, and happily greeting people and dogs along the way. She showed her playful side with a few zoomies and gentle play bows, but was easy to redirect when it was time to keep walking. When Ava noticed little critters along the way, she perked up with bright curiosity but showed little desire to chase them.
What should potential adopters know about me:
Ava is a two-year-old Pointer mix with a heart full of joy and a zest for life. After recovering from a broken pelvis, she's now healed and ready to makeup for lost time. She's playful, social, and has a sweet, curious spirit that makes everyone smile. Ava loves toys, especially squeaky ones, and can entertain herself tossing them around. She's tall and strong, so she'll thrive with a bit of structure and guidance from someone who enjoys active adventures and long walks. With her eagerness to learn and her friendly nature toward both people and dogs, Ava will make a wonderful companion for someone ready to give her the happy, full life she deserves.
