About BENNY

Meet Benny, the pug mix puppy! Benny came to the Shelter via a good samaritan who almost saw him get hit by a car! Lucky for Benny, the good sam took him into safety and even brought him to the vet to get some basic vaccines prior to coming to the Shelter. Benny recently went on an overnight with a volunteer who reports: `Benny was a very sweet overnight guest. He is unsure about new things but gains confidence quickly. Very playful, goofy, loving, affectionate. Was fine being around my cat. They shared space several times. Really wants to play with the other dogs on property, but was responsive to their boundaries they set with him. Loves to fetch balls and plush toys. Gets the zoomies inside and outside. Rode well in the car. Did pretty well with potty habits especially considering he acted like he hadn't been in a house before. He will need fine tuning once in a routine but responded really well to positive reinforcement in a short period of time.`

The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering "Pawsitivity Bucks" with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!

Please note: Our Santa Cruz location's Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end "meet and greets" (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you'd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
