About Gizmo

Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization.

MEET GIZMO!

Gizmo is a 7-year-old male who came to us all the way from California where he was rescued by our friends at Tiny Paws Rescue. While in their care Gizmo had a comprehensive dental cleaning with many extractions. Those 2 fangs remain though and make his grin the cutest from coast to coast! This exceptionally sweet little cutie has already picked up a few nicknames in his foster home. Giz, Gizzy or Gizzard, truth be told, he doesn't much care what you call him as long as you aren't late with his meals!

Gizzy has settled in nicely with his foster siblings an elderly blind Yorkie with dementia and a cat. He did chase the cat out of the kitchen early on during mealtime and got a little fancy on the bed when laying with his foster mom and the cat. This could have been Gizmo testing the waters in a new environment. There has not been any friction now that he's acclimated to his new digs. As we often do, we will say Gizmo entering a home with cats, is more about how the cat deals with dogs. If they run, he will give chase. Giz is very much into snuggling and loves to burrow under the covers in bed. He has become very fond of laying in his foster brother's heated bed with him, so consider investing in something similar for this sun bunny as we approach the frigid winter months. Gizmo loves people. He enjoys meeting new people and he is interested in other dogs during his short walks. Gizmo has a bit of a limp in his right front paw when he gets op from a period of rest. The vet feels he likely has a bit of arthritis considering that he works it out as he continues to amble about. His foster mom is working on getting his weight down, so that will help as well as a quality joint supplement. He is currently on Karna4 Venison, a novel protein source to help address some mild itchiness. Time will tell as he transitions over if this is an effective intervention. He is also using a slow feeder bowl.

Gizmo is a smart little guy. He knows sit, stay and he comes when he is called. His foster mom is working on mat/place, which is a very helpful command, especially when leaving the house, to avoid any bolting out the door, and when guests arrive to allow them to get inside before the deluge of pug love begins! Gizmo is house trained. He had a couple of accidents when he first arrived, but once he got into the routine it was smooth sailing. You'll likely need a professional for nail trims, unless you are highly skilled in pug nails. He is not a fan. Gizzy is a bedtime licker. If you've had one, you know what we are talking about. It is like a self soothing behavior. Giz will lick his paws and then the bedding for a period of time as he settles into sleep for the night. He's going to leave a wet spot, so if that is a deal breaker for you, so be it. He's really kinda perfect, so a little licking is worth it, we think.

Gizmo loves to wrestle around and play fetch. He is a sweet, playful character who in true pug fashion wants to be where the action is. He enjoys his time with the family and could be ok as an only dog as long as there were people around for him to spend time with. He also would enjoy another small dog for companionship. Probably not a bigger dog as he likes to get underfoot and may get injured by a big dog.

If you would like a nice middle aged, mellow, gentle, affectionate pug who enjoys an occasional game of fetch and would love to cuddle with you on the couch, Gizmo just might be your guy.
