About GUNNER

Gunner gives off `friendly neighborhood grandad` vibes; he enjoys greeting everyone he sees and likes to take his time while walking to observe the things that interest him more closely. He knows what his boundaries are - he DOES NOT like being hugged (most dogs do not enjoy hugs and kisses) - and will loudly and gruffly communicate his discontent, yet is quick to return to his more relaxed self once he observes others respecting his boundaries.

OTHER PETS: Gunner was calm when walking by another dog, but did not exhibit much interest in play. Due to his age and energy level, he would likely get along best with a dog that will co-exist around him. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)]

OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] Experience with positive reinforcement will help Gunner learn new skills and build confidence.

KIDS: Like most dogs, Gunner DOES NOT LIKE TO BE HUGGED - every human in his household should be able to respect this boundary in order for Gunner to have the relaxing golden years that he deserves. Gunner should meet any minor humans he would be living with prior to adoption. [13+ / Dog Savvy]

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Gunner enjoys exploring the world around him, although he does it at a leisurely pace. Care should be taken so he does not overexert himself (like many humans Gunner doesn't seem think his body should be acting so old just yet and may attempt to do more than he really should.) A combination of moderate exercise and mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet his needs. [Couch Potato]

VETERINARY CARE: Gunner is an older dog with a pre-existing injury. He is also starting medications for hypothyroidism. He will need to have a good relationship with a vet for the remainder of his life to ensure his quality of life is top notch. [Above Average]

LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Gunner bond with his new owner as well as help him learn skills and tricks wile building confidence. [Minimal]

GROOMING: Regular brushing will help keep Gunner's coat clean and matt-free between groomings; he should be groomed every 6-8 weeks. [Professional Grooming]
