About Phil

Backstory for Phil Philly found himself in an overcapacity animal control facility that euthanizes due to lack of space. Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to pull him to safety to give him a second chance at life. _____________________ Get to Know Phil age: 1 breed: Yorkshire Terrier/Shih Tzu weight: approximately 11-12 pounds Vaccines and treatments: Rabies Bordetella DHPP, part one and two Dewormer Flea/tick prevention Other tests and procedures: Heart worm test - negative Erlichia, Anaplasma, and Lyme test - negative Fecal test - negative Neuter surgery Additional procedures and care: • Microchipped • Dental - not needed because he is so young • Bloodwork - normal ranges overall showing healthy organs. • Initial foundational positive reinforcement training sessions. Veterinary care costs given to Phlly by Animal Saints Rescue Society, based upon NYC area pricing, is $2,000+ Requested adoption donation fee is only $700. This is to partly cover his lifesaving expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to give him a second chance at life. __________________ Breed and Hair Notes Philly, aka Phil, has hair and not fur. He is a stunning brindle with a mix of black and brown hair. PLEASE NOTE: Phil's hair will grow as it is not fur. He will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Philly was terrific for his bath. Despite how eager he is to run and play, he was patient in the tub and on the grooming table. He loves attention, and giving him treats through it all made it even more fun for him. ___________________ Personality Philly. Get ready to have FUN with him! He makes everyone smile who meets him. Philly was recently at an animal hospital open house, representing Animal Saints Rescue Society, and he met dozens of people and dogs. He was terrific meeting everyone! Phil is the life of the party. This dear Saint is so full of life and joy! He has an energetic side and can run like the wind through our sanctuary garden. He also has a calm and sweet side, too. He loves hugs and sits in our laps after he plays outside. Remember, he is young. He has a lot of energy, and he needs to have fun to expel it! Philly would love having a playmate or two or more. He gets along with everyone he's met so far. He asks everyone he meets, "Hey, want to play?" We are working on leash training right now, and he thinks it's terrific. He's a smart boy, and he'll follow your lead. He just needs some gentle guidance to understand your expectations. Basic foundational skills training sessions with a certified professional positive reinforcement trainer are required for Phil's adoption. Just a few classes are needed, and they are fun. It's an excellent way to connect with your newly adopted Saint, too. You can enjoy meeting Phil in his short film. Watch him run with glee in our sanctuary garden! https://vimeo.com/1124519536 ___________________ Ideal Home It is ideal for Philly to be in a home that has adults and possibly older and very, very respectful children who have good experience around dogs. As we mentioned before, Philly needs siblings. He currently plays with other foster Saints in our sanctuary throughout the day. He plays nicely with fosters Gimzo, Toby, and Stanley. Philly will especially thrive in a home that can give him companionship day and night. He'd be okay for a few hours on his own with his siblings if you provided him with puzzles and things to do while you're away. Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Philly. He will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing. If you have a very secure fenced-in backyard for running, playing and can safely give him frequent walks, this would be ideal for dear Philly. ___________________ Love and Commitment At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it's okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don't want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need. Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!
